There are things that you can't consider yourself wise if you omit them from your policy at certain times in your life (Even if you are looking for ways to get dirt cheap auto insurance rates). However, at other times, you will be considered unwise if you still maintain such components. Here is an example that will help clarify things...
Have you just bought a new car? Then it would be totally unwise for you to NOT include collision and comprehensive coverage types in your policy. This is because you risk a lot on such a brand new vehicle. However, let's fast-forward to, say, 15 years later...At such a time the value of the vehicle might have dropped to a point where it might be worth less than a thousand dollars.
The question then would be: Would you consider it a wise move to maintain such coverage types on a vehicle that's worth so little (Bearing in mind that your insurer will only reimburse based on the current market value of your vehicle)? No, I don't think so.
